Time goes by way too fast

When was the last time you stopped to smell a flower? Or parked at a scenic view and just enjoyed every detail? How about spending time with someone you love, doing nothing at all other than enjoying being with them?
This world has become so fast paced, it is so hard to stop and just live in the moment. For years I have had trouble just enjoying what is happening right now, because I was always worried about my big plans for the future, and how I was going to achieve them. Then, for some reason, I finally realized that time was passing me by. I won’t get another chance to see my son’s first steps, or read him a book before he goes to sleep tonight. I have learned to embrace those moments, and think only about that moment while it is happening. For just a few minutes, absolutely nothing else matters.
How can you learn to live in the moment?
This is something you can train yourself to do. All you really have to do is consciously decide to enjoy something for what it is, and not worry about anything else at that moment. Maybe it is taking 5 minutes each morning to really enjoy a good cup of coffee. No newspaper reading, no TV. Just sitting there enjoying the moment, not thinking about anything else. Maybe it is taking a hiking trip on the weekend, and packing a picnic to eat away from the activity of your busy life. Whatever it may be that you enjoy, you have to force yourself to live just in that moment. If your mind starts to wander, consciously make turn your thoughts back to the moment. Eventually this will become a very important part of your life, and a great way to relieve stress and feel alive again.
